What I Ate: RPM Seafood

My boyfriend surprised me with dinner reservations for our anniversary at RPM Seafood and I was thrilled. I previously dined at the RPM Italian, many years ago, and had a wonderful experience.

I initially heard from friends that RPM Seafood wasn’t worth it, and to spend my time and money dining at Italian or Steak. However, I completely disagree with that statement. Maybe it’s because I don’t eat meat but everything that I ate here was phenomenal and I would highly recommend RPM Seafood to friends and family.

We started with two appetizers. Our classic order: grilled octopus. The grilled Spanish octopus is cooked sous vide in a chorizo vinaigrette, which I normally would not eat, but I love octopus so much that I kind of just had to. We also ordered 3 of each type of oyster: the RPM Pearl and RPM Prestige. According to our waiter, these oysters are only available to the RPM group. I will admit, they were both delicious. While slightly different, both were perfectly briney with a light, flavorful finish.

Following our seafood appetizer extravaganza, we ordered the salad special for the night. I believe this was the tomato salad with tomato vinaigrette. If you like 🍅, you’ll love this dish.

The salad was light and refreshing. There were two types of tomatoes: cherry tomatoes and sliced tomatoes. They were layered with fresh, soft mozzarella cheese and toasted breadcrumbs. The tomato vinaigrette was drizzled on top for the perfect finish. The whole dish was light and fresh and the perfect intermediate bite between our seafood apps and seafood entrees.

For the mains, we split two dishes, something we do often. I love eating this way because I get to try more things, plus I prefer meals with many different flavors to them. This dish, while still delicious, was the least favorite thing that we ordered. I think given the vast seafood options at the restaurant this kind of felt like a waste of an order tbh.

However, it was still delicious. This is the King Crab Cavatelli. The dish includes large chunks of crab, with pasta, breadcrumbs, and fresh herbs on top plus chili butter and miso. The one saving grace that justified this order for me was the actual quantity of crab within the dish. Aside from that, I felt lke there were better options that we could have ordered.

The second part of our entree order was this Wild Alaskan Halibut, with brown butter and capers. I tend not to love dishes with this heavy of a butter focus, but it was perfectly balanced.

The fish was cooked to perfection, with a crispy outside. Plus, I am a huge caper fan, so the number of capers was ideal for me. Overall, the fish was simple and straightforward, but flavorful and executed perfectly. It’s not the most adventurous dish, but I would definitely re-order or recommend.

I, of course, can’t finish a meal without dessert. Everything on the dessert menu looked delicious but our waiter recommended the Banana Cream Napoleon. The dessert is layered with banana cream, sliced bananas, phyllo pastry, and warm caramel. Bonus points for the tableside caramel pour.

Overall, our RPM Seafood meal was a delicious treat. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone and everyone. The atmosphere is calming and chic. We also sat on the outside patio, under an umbrella, facing the river. It is great people watching out there too. The staff were extremely professional and helpful when ordering. I can’t say enough good things about my expereince and meal at RPM Seafood.
